Make friends through the
Jaywick Local History Society

Please come along to one of our two-monthly meetings. You will be warmly welcomed as the aim is to make friends through an interest in Jaywick and its history. These are not heavy going evenings but just a sociable gathering to listen to an interesting speaker and meet people living in and around the village. Talks usually last about 45 minutes with a  cup of tea or coffee at half time. Please check out "What's on" page for details of forthcoming events.

Knowing a little more of the history can make Jaywick an even more enjoyable place to live. You will probably meet people with similar interests to yourself. We usually have about forty to fifty people who attend and amongst these may be friends of yours you haven’t met yet.

Non members are welcome to come along to all events for just £1. Meetings are at the Golf Green Hall unless otherwise stated. Membership fee is £5. Entry free to all members. Meetings are usually 6pm to 8pm.

If you come on your own please ask for a Committee member and they will be pleased to show you around and introduce you to other members.

There’s an enjoyable programme planned for 2011. Last year we enjoyed some very interesting talks and gave presentations from our extensive collection of photographs. In July we arranged a guided walk around Harwich.  We staged our second Exhibition in August at Golf Green Hall and once again had a large response. Our third will be held in May of this year. On the 6th December many of our Members and their guests enjoyed a Christmas Dinner held once again at the Flamingo Restaurant.  35 People attended.

Jaywick today is very much about enjoying an interesting place to live. The History Group is about making friends and learning a little about the village story. You will be made to feel very welcome.
